Model United Nations

In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization’s agenda. Students make speeches, prepare and draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, and navigate the conference rules of procedure – all in the interest of mobilizing, “international cooperation” to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

Joey Ernest AwardFounded during the 2009-2010 school year, BLMUN has accomplished a great deal in the short time since it's inception. We have participated in many conferences, including the prestigious Ivy League Model United Nations Conference (ILMUNC) hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. BLMUN has also attended conferences hosted by esteemed universities such as the University of Virginia, Princeton University, the University of Delaware, as well as local independent school, St. Paul's.

During the 2012-13 school year, students attended two conferences, Princeton Model United Nations Conference (PMUNC) in December 2012 and ILMUNC in January 2013. Princeton was a new and challenging conference for the students, which served as a great learning experience for our delegates. At ILMUNC, our delegation was again very successful with Bobby Norman winning an award for “Best Delegate” in a challenging crisis committee.

Now in its fifth year, BLMUN finds continued success as a team and for our individual delegates led by Secretary-General Max Marshall. We have attended ILMUNC 30 in January 2014 and HenMUN II hosted by the University of Delaware in February 2014. HenMUN was the most successful conference in the history of the club taking home three awards. Nick Morton won an Outstanding Delegate Award for his leadership in the G20 Summit and Max Marshall and Michael Ostendorf were recognized as Honorable Mentions for achievements in a challenging Ad-Hoc crisis committee and the Historic General Assembly, respectively. We are looking forward to hosting our first school conference in April 2014, an exciting end to another great year.
