Laker-to-Laker Program

The Laker-to-Laker Buddy Program is valued and recognized as a vital component of Boys’ Latin’s Laker Corps.  Our participants help to foster the essential link between childhood and adolescence.

The Laker-to-Laker Buddy Program allows for an Uupper school student to be matched with a lower school student. Each week the buddies look forward to spending time, one-on-one, participating in fun activities such as playing Legos, coloring, completing puzzles and games, or spending time outside. The upper school student serves as a positive role model, assisting his lower school buddy with his decision making and interpersonal skills. The bond that develops often allows for open communication and an empathetic relationship between the boys.

The importance of mentorship and positive role models has been shown to be crucial in the social-emotional development of boys. Here at Boys’ Latin, we are fortunate to have an educational setting that allows for upper school students to participate in the mentoring of their fellow lower school Lakers.

"The Laker-to-Laker Buddy program is one of the best ways to unite our school, from the upper school to the lower school. Personally, I look forward to it because is allows me to be a role model for my buddy and someone that they can count on.  It also gives me the opportunity to be the older brother I've always wanted to be." ~ Zak Davis ’11

“The best example of Esse Quam Videri is my Laker Buddy, Jimmy Scharff. I’m really grateful for him, he changed my life by helping me. I wish I could do that when I’m older, I want to make a difference too.” ~ Ryan Hurley ’18, Esse Quam Videri contest winner 2010.
